Listening In Community

By |October 17th, 2015|

To listen is very hard, because it asks of us so much interior stability that we no longer need to prove ourselves by speeches, arguments, statements, or declarations. True listeners no longer have an inner need to make their presence known. They are free to receive, to welcome, to accept.

Listening is much more than allowing […]

Dear Friends,

Learn Forward is a brand new book with fresh ideas about what matters most for children to thrive.  My shy soul is poured out on the pages of the book with stories from my life, my work in Africa, my children, and my work in schools.  It is the culmination of my work to date. […]

Adapting to the Less-than-Perfect

By |October 13th, 2015|

October is a month of abundance!  I am resisting my normal fall gloom due to the shorter days and the winter spanning before me.  I am finding joy in the colour and crispness of the harvest.  This is the season of plenty.  This is the season of gratitude.

Last year I attended #TEDxKelowna2014 and explored abundant ideologies […]

Creating Sacred Spaces

By |October 4th, 2015|

The Builder is creating a new space for our family.  It is a simpler space, reflective of the changes happening inside of us and our children.  It is a sacred work.

As he puts his hands and heart to the process, it is quite sweet to watch.  He must visit each day, even on non-work days. […]

The Morning Routine

By |September 13th, 2015|

Recently we enjoyed a hike to see a fall miracle: Kokanee salmon spawning. The salmon swim upstream, jumping the locks to find the place of their birth and lay their eggs. Their colour even changes to a brilliant orange-red in a seeming celebration of legacy!  It looks like an ‘impossible journey’ filled with bravery and strength.

Courage in the Brittle Places

By |August 22nd, 2015|

“You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.”  ~Thomas Merton
What do you do when you feel as dry as a brittle twig. […]

Courage as Our Meditation

By |August 16th, 2015|

Currently my family is preparing to move!  The big move day is next week and one week from now we will be in a new home.

Moving is a beast.  The kids are having emotions, The Builder and I are on edge, even the dog seems depressed.  Our intention is to downsize and simplify, but we […]

Celebrate the Moments of Summer

By |August 9th, 2015|

Just a couple days ago, in the early morning hours, we were packing up to come home from the lake and there on the screen was a HUGE, shimmering dragonfly.  I whispered G over and we marvelled at its breadth and length as it rested on our home.

The moment sparkled with celebration.  We experienced belonging […]

One Question for 2015!

By |December 14th, 2014|

Over the course of the month of December, I begin to realize the calendar year is coming to a close and I become rather contemplative around the transition.  I love to reflect on the year, plucking the highlights from the branches and enjoying the flavour of gratitude. Often this harvest points me to big ideas for […]

A Journey Together

By |August 3rd, 2014|

The table of learning is for the student, parent, and educator and it is a banquet.  The table of learning is a feast!  At the table our hearts are in a posture of humility.  My yogi friend calls it a beginner’s mind.  In a sense we are all coming to the table open like children, […]
